NiNi’s Quickies [Week of 11.10.08]

What’s NiNi been tweeting about? [Week of 11.10.08]

G9’s FEAR[net] in Your Ear…

Along with the launch of FEARnet’s new blog format, G9’s role as music journalist [music journalist altar ego = Gregory S. Burkart] has increased to interviews, CD reviews AND music news in a blog section devoted 100% to music.

Monster Mondays: All-American Fiendish Families

Has TV brought any great “monster families” to our homes since the ’60s-era Addams Family and Munsters? Anyone? I myself will have to think about that one and get back to you. Or maybe I should be working on a TV pilot script! What kind of “monster family” would you want to see on 21st Century Television?

Hungry For The American Dream? Eat Pie!

Forget mudslinging, how’s about some I Love Lucy-style pie flinging? In your face, McCain! Mmmm… *lip-smack* blueberry! O-no-you-didn’t, Obama! *lip-smack* mmmmmmm… cherry! I received a little email telling me that Carousel Cakes is now following me on Twitter, so as most Twitter addicts will do, I decided to check into “who is this Carousel Cakes you speak of?”

Crow’s Nest Studio SnapShot: Meet Sherman Monster

G9’s prized Sherman says “raaaawr!” The Sherman [Filterbank] has been referred to by music gearheads as “Lucifer in a Box.” We really can’t say enough great things about this beast. The weird noises throughout most of the song MOONLIGHT and in the end credits of the FANTOMATIQUE video came from Sherman, with yours truly [...]

SWITCHBACK Remix Time Capsule

We did not “win” the Celldweller SWITCHBACK remix contest as far as prizes or placement in the top three. We also did not make it onto the remix CD, at least not yet… I’m not even sure that a remix CD will be made, honestly… it seems that Klayton prefers widgets these days [as do most indie musicians, ourselves included!], so maybe at some point, we could wind up being featured on the Celldweller widget. That would be a dream come true, but if it doesn’t happen, that’s fine by us, because the contest benefited us above and beyond widget-stardom or CD placement in ways we could not have predicted when we first created the remixes…

HELDEN: From the Front Row [Apocalyptica Dallas 05.12.08]

White spotlights appeared one at a time to highlight each player as he launched into the enigmatic opening strains of the title track from Worlds Collide…

Experiencing NIGHT ETERNAL: Have You Seen My Teeth?

While listening to Fernando’s opening words of “At Tragic Heights” [from the book of Revelation, of course], the same image that hits me often when I hear his voice, hit me again: Gary Oldman’s Dracula. And I can’t help but imagine him [Fernando, not Gary] saying to me, “Welcome… to my…. hhhhh…home.”

LA TERZA MADRE [MOTHER OF TEARS]: Down IN the Sickness

In La Terza Madre, Claudio Simonetti’s score delivers a powerful “character” to the film in what I would consider one of the best film scores ever made, and definitely up-to-snuff with his Suspiria score. The final [closing credits] track “Mater Lacrimarum,” performed by Daemonia, with guest vocalist Dani Filth, is a horror music masterpiece…

New Beginnings: The Door is Open

So what’s the deal with The Chamber Door: Corvo’s Journal of Madness, Murder and Music Mania?
We started this new format a few weeks ago, and those of you on our older e-newsletter list have probably noticed that updated emails have been coming your way a little more often since then. We used to send maybe [...]

TURBULENT SEA Music Video

I knew from the very beginning as we wrote Turbulent Sea that my voice would be synced up to a different person, and I’ll admit, at first, I felt a little apprehensive about it. However, it really didn’t take long for me to say, “NiNi get over it, this is done constantly in movies and on TV… Hello, Jonathan Davis and Lestat?!” When the video came out, I loved it immediately….

HERE IS WHAT IT IS: Beauty and The Shit

Daniel [Lanois to Brian Eno]: I’m trying to make a film that’s… beautiful in itself, about beauty, about the source of the art, rather than… everything that surrounds the art… and… I was hoping you might say a couple of words about that subject matter, because you’ve always operated in a relatively quiet way, and yet, you’re like a world artist…

New Video: TELLTALE “Twisted Fairytales” Teaser

It just wouldn’t be right to let Friday the 13th go by without posting something… Friday the 13th-y! The song in this teaser video is an excerpt from GLASSCASKET, a new track from our debut full-length album TELLTALE, currently in production… and there is more where that came from! We hope you like it, and [...]

Studio Kitteh Says…

Monster Mondays: LAND OF THE LOST

When my dad and I traveled the roller coaster circuit every Six Flags summer, I used to scream “Daddy, do something!” Then we’d both scream: “Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” all the way down that first big drop. Now, I tend to scream this when I’m in the tub and I picture myself in a teeny-tiny raft, falling down [...]

NiNi’s Unofficial Apocalyptica Fan Documentary

This was my original Twitter post on the subject from 05.28.08:
Working on a fan video of the Apocalyptica Dallas HoB show. We were right up-front, got GR8 photos and videos… I can hardly WAIT to finish and share it.
*Update: Here’s one of my favorite photos of Eicca, snapped at the concert. My “front-and-center [...]

Monster Mondays: Demonic Possession

Did you know…
“I speak with the devil every day. I talk to him in Latin. He answers in Italian. I have been wrestling with him, day in day out, for 14 years.”
-Father Gabriel Amorth, World-Famous Exorcist
1. There is an International Association of Exorcists? It was founded in 1993, it’s very difficult to [...]
